The statistics illustrated a stark contrast to the pre-wildfire era. In 2019, leisure travel to Los Angeles was a substantial contributor to the local economy, generating approximately $30 billion in economic impact, supplemented by group business activities that added about $25 billion. However, Burke lamented that the city has yet to regain that level of visitation. The transient occupancy tax, a vital revenue source for the city, is anticipated to yield over $300 million this year, signaling the hotel industry’s ongoing importance amidst recovery efforts.

However, Burke’s concerns regarding the need for a greater hotel supply to accommodate the anticipated influx of visitors cannot be overlooked.
