Transformational Renovation at Wyndham Grand Rio Mar: A New Era for Luxe Getaways

The Wyndham Grand Rio Mar Rainforest Beach & Golf Resort, nestled along Puerto Rico’s picturesque northeastern coastline, is embarking on an ambitious $50 million transformation. This strategic renovation aims to elevate the resort’s stature, shifting its appeal towards a more upscale clientele. Renovations will encompass extensive improvements throughout the property, with a focus on modernizing the guest experience in a way that harmonizes with the stunning natural surroundings.

Elegant Accommodations Redefined

At the heart of this renovation is the complete overhaul of the resort’s 400 guest rooms. The updates will introduce premium flooring, refined wooden accents, and rattan features that reflect the lush environment of El Yunque National Forest nearby. Guests can expect lavish bathrooms adorned with high-end tile work and gleaming brass fixtures, while each room will sport a soothing palette inspired by the rich blues of the ocean and the warm earth tones of the rainforest. The first phase of the renovations will see 200 rooms completed by December, with the remaining accommodations expected to be finished by mid-2025.

Dining options at the resort will also undergo a significant transformation. The Marbella restaurant will transition from a simple breakfast venue to an elegant Spanish dining experience, catering to both local palate and international tastes. Additionally, a new outdoor dining space will encourage communal meals, infused with local flavors and entertainment during evening hours. The resort is committed to promoting healthy eating options, transitioning the existing Roots Coastal Kitchen to a grab-and-go concept that highlights fresh, local ingredients.

Alongside its culinary offerings, the resort’s casino will pay homage to retro Boricuan and Cuban aesthetics from the 1950s and 1960s. Adjacent to the casino, a new lounge space will provide a cabaret-style setting for live entertainment, amplifying the nightlife experience for guests. Moreover, an observation deck with telescopes will allow visitors to gaze upon the natural beauty of El Yunque, blending relaxation with nature appreciation.

Innovative Programs for All Ages

In a bid to promote engagement with the local ecosystem, the resort will introduce the Xplorers Club – a program designed to offer educational adventures for guests of all ages. This initiative will include activities like kayaking on the Mameyes River and guided explorations of the vibrant ecological diversity surrounding the area, elevating the educational component of the vacation experience.

Strategic Vision for the Future

LionGrove’s CEO, Andro Nodarse-Leon, underscored the importance of transitioning the Wyndham Grand Rio Mar into a more luxurious destination, positioning it strongly in a competitive market that is witnessing rising demand for high-end accommodations. Nodarse-Leon highlighted the resort’s potential to captivate a discerning clientele by leveraging its unique offerings and exquisite location.

The Wyndham Grand Rio Mar Rainforest Beach & Golf Resort is not just refreshing its aesthetic but is reimagining what a luxury getaway can embody. By combining natural beauty with luxurious comfort, innovative dining, and engaging educational experiences, this renovation positions the resort as an ideal destination for travelers seeking both relaxation and adventure in paradise.
