The George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) in Houston has reached a significant milestone with the unveiling of its expanded Terminal D. The newly developed West Pier introduces six gates specifically designed for widebody aircraft, with the flexibility to accommodate up to 10 narrowbody jets, thereby optimizing usage in response to fluctuating demand.
On October 22, the terminal welcomed its first international flight with an Avianca service from San Salvador, which marked the beginning of operations at the new facility. Additionally, the airport has ensured that most foreign airlines operating out of IAH can access these newly inaugurated gates, paving the way for a seamless international travel experience.
Spanning an impressive 160,000 square feet, the West Pier is not merely a functional space for boarding and disembarking passengers; it is designed with an emphasis on enhancing the overall travel experience. The terminal will eventually feature 16 retail and dining establishments, catering to diverse culinary tastes and shopping preferences.
