In a candid telephone interview, Cummings reflected on his early days as a struggling artist, stating, “I was a broke artist. But I was a big beer fan, and I wanted Zombie Dust at High Life prices.” His mention of Zombie Dust, a well-regarded pale ale crafted by 3 Floyds Brewing in Indiana, illustrates the beginnings of his fascination with craft beverages. Fueled by a love for beer and a thirst for knowledge, Cummings dove headfirst into the world of homebrewing shortly after establishing his glass company. By 2016, his dual passion converged when he opened a beer bar adjacent to Pretentious Glass, which later evolved into Pretentious Beer Co. in 2017. Cummings proudly claims, “We are the only place in the world where people can drink beer made in-house, out of glasses made in-house, and watch it all being made.” This unique proposition not only emphasizes the transparency of craft brewing but also highlights the intimate relationship between the brewing process and the tools used to enjoy the final product.
